Jaipur Literature Festival to celebrate 20th edition in January 2027

The Jaipur Literature Festival will celebrate its landmark 20th edition from January 14 to 18 at Hotel Clarks Amer in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Supported by the Government of Rajasthan and produced by Teamwork Arts, the acclaimed event will mark two decades of global cultural exchange, multilingual storytelling, and intellectual dialogue under the official theme, "20 Years of Ideas. Stories. Conversations."

To commemorate the milestone anniversary, festival organizers released the official 20th edition announcement simultaneously across all 22 official languages of India. The multi-language launch introduces the festival's "Bhasha Swarmala" series, an initiative designed to honor India's linguistic diversity and champion translation, cross-linguistic expression, and regional literary traditions.

Award-winning author and festival co-director Namita Gokhale highlighted the importance of celebrating indigenous languages, stating that the soul of India lies in her literary heritage and linguistic diversity, making it appropriate to honor her many languages in the 20th milestone year. Sanjoy K. Roy, managing director of Teamwork Arts and producer of the Jaipur Literature Festival, noted that the event was founded on the principle that books and ideas possess the power to unite people. Roy added that the festival's endurance stems from the generosity of writers, the curiosity of audiences, and a shared commitment to cross-cultural dialogue.

Since launching in 2008, the Jaipur Literature Festival has welcomed more than 8,000 writers, speakers, and artists to its stages. On-ground attendance has surpassed five million visitors over the past two decades, while digital platforms, broadcast partnerships, and global media networks have extended the festival's reach to more than one billion people worldwide.

Over its 20-year history, the festival has featured Nobel laureates, Booker Prize winners, heads of state, economists, philosophers, and leading artists. Conversations at the annual gathering have encompassed diverse fields, including history, politics, science, economics, philosophy, gender studies, health, migration, and the environment. Additionally, JLF has expanded its international presence, hosting over 15 overseas editions in nations including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Australia, Ireland, the Maldives, and the Middle East.

Preeta Singh, president of Teamwork Arts, stated that while the festival has evolved into a major international platform, it remains fundamentally rooted in books and ideas. Moving forward, the organization aims to deepen global collaborations, reach broader audiences, and expand its cultural footprint across India and abroad.
