Karwar-Ankola-Gokarna Chalo on Thursday

Environmentalists and community groups in Uttar Kannada district will hold a rally on Thursday as part of the Karwar-Ankola-Gokarna Chalo campaign to demand stronger protections for the region’s rivers and forests.

The march, organized by several environmental protection organizations and community bodies, aims to raise public awareness about the potential harm posed by unscientific development projects in the Gangavali-Karavali region. According to a release issued by the organizers, the initiative is being carried out on the directions of Sri Gangadharendra Saraswati Swami of Sonda Swarnavalli Math.

The main goal of the rally is to oppose any projects that could negatively impact the rivers, forests, and coastal ecosystems of the district. Organizers emphasize that the conservation of natural resources is vital for future generations and is not just a concern for a specific group but a collective responsibility.

The rally will begin in Sirsi and proceed through multiple towns, culminating in visits to local administrative offices to submit petitions. Activists will first submit a petition to the Gokarna gram panchayat, then travel to Karwar to submit another to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The procession will conclude after submitting a petition to the Ankola Taluk Panchayat in the evening.

The campaign reflects growing concerns among residents and environmentalists about the environmental impact of development in the region. By mobilizing public support, the organizers hope to influence policy decisions and ensure sustainable growth in Uttar Kannada.
