Major Rishabh Sambyal, internet's ‘national crush’ and President's ex-ADC, retires from Army

Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal, former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to President Droupadi Murmu, has retired from the Indian Army after nearly 12 years of service. His departure follows a meeting with the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he expressed gratitude for her guidance. Sambyal’s retirement comes after a distinguished career marked by both professional excellence and social media fame.

Sambyal officially met President Murmu last week, thanking her for her support during his tenure as her ADC. In an Instagram post, he shared photos with the President, writing, “Honoured to call on the Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The blessings and teachings of the Hon'ble President have helped me grow as an individual in life. Also, it was wonderful to meet the family once again. Jai Hind.” His retirement follows a notable career that included leadership roles in the Jat Regiment and the 4 Para Special Forces, also known as the Daggers.

Born in Haryana, Sambyal joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) in 2013 after clearing the NDA examination. He was part of the 133rd NDA course, which began in 2014, before completing his military studies and defence management training at the Indian Military Academy. His military career gained early attention in 2021 when, as a Captain in the Jat Regiment, he led the contingent during the Republic Day parade and won the Best Marching Contingent Trophy. His later service with the Special Forces earned him the Balidaan Badge, a prestigious recognition.

Sambyal’s appointment as ADC to President Murmu in March 2023 brought him widespread recognition. As ADC, he managed protocol, security, and official engagements, often accompanying the President during public events and official visits. His professional responsibilities included coordinating with senior government officials and foreign dignitaries, ensuring smooth execution of presidential duties.

During his tenure, social media users frequently shared images and videos of Sambyal assisting President Murmu at public events. His composed demeanor and disciplined presence led to viral discussions, with many dubbing him the “national crush” of the internet. His appearances during the 2026 Republic Day Parade further amplified his public profile.
