Ogun Police Neutralize Two Kidnappers, Rescue Truck Driver

The Ogun State Police Command has neutralized two suspected kidnappers and rescued a professional truck driver in a counter-operation conducted by the state’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The successful operation, which resulted in the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and suspected illicit proceeds, underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat kidnapping and violent crime in Ogun State. According to a statement released on Sunday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the victim was abducted in the early hours of August 25, 2026, in the Ajibawo area of Ibese.

Acting on actionable intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a tactical operation targeting a hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road. During the raid, two suspected kidnappers were killed in a confrontation, while other members of the gang fled after sustaining gunshot injuries. The police recovered two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two mobile phones, and two million naira in cash, believed to be proceeds from criminal activities. The deceased suspects have been taken to the morgue for autopsy, and the command has initiated efforts to apprehend the remaining fugitives.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their bravery and operational effectiveness. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to making the state inhospitable to criminals, emphasizing the use of intelligence-led policing, tactical operations, and community partnerships to protect residents and property. Ojajuni also urged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and provide credible information—especially about individuals seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds—to support ongoing law enforcement efforts.

The command has called on residents to cooperate fully with security agencies and avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder investigations. Authorities are continuing their manhunt for the fleeing gang members, who are considered armed and dangerous.
