Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Uzbekistan’s highest civilian honour, the ‘Oliy Darajali Do’stlik’ Order, on August 30, 2026, bringing his total international awards since 2016 to 36. The ceremony in Tashkent marked a milestone in India-Uzbekistan relations, as the two countries elevated their partnership to a comprehensive strategic level and set ambitious economic targets.

Modi’s latest honour, presented by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was dedicated to the enduring friendship between India and Uzbekistan, reflecting the deepening ties between the two nations. This recognition follows a series of high-level engagements, including trade discussions and agreements that aim to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.

During the visit, Modi and Mirziyoyev announced plans to boost bilateral trade from the current level of over $1 billion to $5 billion annually by 2030. To support this goal, 11 agreements were signed, covering key areas such as mining, tourism, and civil nuclear energy. A significant development in the energy sector was the agreement to establish a long-term uranium supply framework from Uzbekistan to India, aligning with both countries’ commitments to peaceful nuclear cooperation.

The upgraded partnership reflects a shared vision for regional stability and economic growth. Both leaders emphasized the importance of people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges as foundational elements of their strategic relationship.
