At least 37 dead and hundreds evacuated after strike on Kyiv warehouse

At least 37 people have been killed and nearly 400 evacuated after a Russian drone strike triggered explosions at a warehouse in the Kyiv region late Friday, Ukrainian officials reported Saturday. The attack in the Bucha district, specifically in the village of Myla, damaged residential buildings and a care home for elderly and disabled individuals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the incident, emphasizing that ammunition must not be stored near residential areas. “Appropriate conclusions will certainly be drawn,” he wrote on X. Regional head Tymur Tkachenko confirmed that four children were among the 42 injured, with rescue operations still underway. Over 300 emergency personnel were deployed to the site.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s office launched an investigation into the legality of storing explosive materials near residential buildings. Authorities are examining whether officials responsible for permitting such storage may have committed negligence. Tkachenko also reported additional casualties in separate Russian attacks on Saturday, including the death of a 14-year-old in Boryspil and a two-year-old in Obolonskyi after a drone crashed.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko confirmed five injuries from fresh strikes in the capital, raising the total fatalities across Ukraine to five in the past day. Zelensky also reported overnight drone attacks in Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia, while Ukraine’s military claimed it intercepted 233 Russian drones.

In Russia, local officials reported two deaths and 25 injuries in strikes across the Belgorod and Rostov regions. Meanwhile, the Russian-appointed governor of occupied Zaporizhzhia said four people were injured after a Ukrainian strike hit a shopping center. Russian online retailer Ozon suspended operations at two logistics centers due to drone strikes in Krasnodar, Dagestan, Stavropol, and Adygeya, which caused injuries and damage earlier in the week.

The escalation reflects months of intensified attacks by both sides. Ukraine has targeted Russian economic infrastructure, including facilities linked to Wildberries, the country’s largest online retailer, which it alleges supplies military components. Russia continues to strike Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, as the conflict persists.
