France’s Cassandre Beaugrand secured a commanding fourth consecutive victory in the World Triathlon Championship Series, extending her unbeaten streak in Weihai, China, where Britain’s Beth Potter finished runner-up.

Beaugrand, a two-time Olympic medalist, crossed the finish line in one minute 49.20 seconds, six seconds ahead of Potter in the 10-kilometer run. Germany’s Lisa Tertsch completed the podium, 18 seconds behind the French champion. Beaugrand now leads the overall standings despite having competed in fewer races than some rivals.

“I was feeling strong in the swim and bike sections, but the run was tough with Beth pushing the pace,” Beaugrand said. “I just tried to keep up and trust my finish.”

The race began with a tightly packed swim, where Britain’s Tilly Anema and Brazil’s Vittoria Lopez led before the pack regrouped on the bike. A group of more than 30 cyclists stayed together until the run, where Beaugrand, Potter, and Tertsch began to pull away.

On the second lap of the run, Tertsch faded while Potter stayed close to Beaugrand, but the French athlete surged ahead in the final kilometer to claim victory.

In the men’s race, Switzerland’s Max Studer won in one hour 41 minutes 8 seconds, followed by Spain’s David Cantero del Campo and Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk.

The 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series concludes with a final event in the Czech Republic on September 13, followed by the Grand Final in Spain on September 23.
