CJP May Re‑appoint Former Spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya, Says Dipke

The leadership of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is considering reinstating former spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya, according to party founder and national convenor Abhijeet Dipke. However, Dipke acknowledged that Dahiya’s removal in 2024 followed an incident that he described as “insensitive.” The move comes as the party reassesses the circumstances surrounding Dahiya’s exit amid ongoing protests in New Delhi.

Dahiya was removed from his role as CJP spokesperson after videos circulated online showing him at a fast-food outlet during a period when protestors were reportedly facing police action at Jantar Mantar. Dipke, in an interview with BBC News Hindi, referred to Dahiya as “a nice person” but noted that the timing of the incident was problematic. “We will think about that, but what happened that day was a bit insensitive,” Dipke said. “He is a really nice person, but the timing was wrong and that shouldn't have happened.”

In a statement posted on X, the CJP said the videos were shared at a time when “peaceful protestors and our team were facing brutal police violence,” and that Dahiya’s presence at the food outlet did not reflect the movement’s values. Dahiya, in response, claimed he had been made a “scapegoat” and expressed deep disappointment over his removal. He stated that he had spent two nights at the protest site in preparation for a potential police crackdown and had briefly left to freshen up and get food.

Dahiya also criticized the lack of recognition for protestors’ sacrifices, saying, “What people don't see is that I haven't slept for two nights. Neither have those who are part of the protest.” He added that he had been actively countering misinformation about the CJP and defending Dipke before his own removal.

The CJP, led by Abhijeet Dipke, has remained a vocal participant in recent protest movements in the national capital. The party’s engagement with public demonstrations has drawn both support and scrutiny, with leaders emphasizing the grassroots nature of their activism. Dahiya’s potential return could signal a shift in the party’s communication strategy as it continues to navigate political and social challenges.
