Delhi CM Orders Seal of Maujpur Playschool After 3-Year-Old Assault

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered the immediate sealing of a playschool in the Maujpur area of Delhi following the alleged physical assault of a three-year-old boy on its premises. Condemning the incident as deeply disturbing, the Delhi government directed the District Magistrate to initiate sealing proceedings while Delhi Police conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The Chief Minister announced the administrative action through an official statement from her office on X, formerly Twitter. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government has taken serious cognisance of the assault and assured the public that accountability will be fixed, promising that those found guilty will face the strictest action available under the law.

Law enforcement authorities have already taken action against the school personnel involved in the incident. Delhi Police arrested a school attendant in connection with the abuse, while formal charges have been registered against a teacher, the school principal, and the school director. Police officers visited the Maujpur facility, seized the central closed-circuit television recorder, and filed a First Information Report following a complaint lodged by the victim's father.

The incident involved a three-year-old boy who was allegedly tied to a chair for several hours and physically assaulted inside the playschool, which operates as part of an institution with international branches. The abuse came to light after the child's parents noticed severe behavioral changes, including an intense fear of visiting the washroom, persistent agitation, and uncontrollable crying during the night.

Physical signs of injury, including visible bruises on the toddler's face and arms, prompted the parents to seek a medical evaluation. A medical professional who examined the child identified clear signs of physical trauma, including notable swelling in both ear canals, confirming that the child had been subjected to violence.

When the child's father, a 33-year-old advocate, initially requested access to the playschool's CCTV footage to investigate the injuries, school staff deferred the request by claiming technical glitches were preventing playback. The staff subsequently demanded a fee of 1,500 rupees from the parents to view the security recordings. Upon paying the requested amount, the parents gained access to the video footage, which captured staff members committing acts of physical violence against the young child.

The Delhi Police investigation remains ongoing as authorities review the seized CCTV evidence and process the charges against the booked school administrators and staff members.
