Delhi: Father, aide arrested for murdering son inside shipping container

A 64-year-old man and his associate have been arrested for allegedly murdering the man’s 38-year-old son, whose body was discovered inside an abandoned shipping container near the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in south Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj. The victim, identified as the son of Talukdar Ansari, was found with severe head injuries and ligature marks around his neck late on August 23, police said on Saturday. Mohammad Wasim alias Akram, 49, was arrested along with Ansari, with police alleging that the killing was carried out due to the victim’s mental health struggles, including schizophrenia.

The body was found inside a container locally known as “Bablu Ka Container,” which had been abandoned for years near the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) boundary wall along the eastern side of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Police received information about the unidentified body at 7:13 a.m. on August 23. Upon investigation, officers found the victim lying inside the container, with a substantial amount of blood oozing from a head injury. The victim had been dead for nearly 24 hours before discovery, and police recovered ₹70 in cash and some tobacco from his pocket. A bloodstained stone was also found near the body, leading to the registration of a murder case at the Kalindi Kunj police station.

Police formed four investigative teams under Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sarita Vihar, Anil Kumar Sharma, with overall supervision from Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Vijay Kumar. The teams worked to identify the victim and locate the killers. Using CCTV footage from around the crime scene and nearby areas, investigators traced the victim’s movements, showing him with two suspects before he vanished near the container. The trail led police to a stitching factory in Govindpuri, where Ansari and Wasim were arrested.

According to police, Ansari and Wasim allegedly lured the victim to the container under the pretense of taking him to a doctor for treatment. Once inside, Wasim struck the victim’s head with a stone, after which Ansari also assaulted him. The two then strangled the victim using an improvised cloth made from waste material, resulting in his death. The body was left inside the container.

Initially treated as a blind murder case due to the unknown identity of the deceased and unclear motive, police have since advanced their investigation. Senior officers stated that further interrogations are underway to establish the full motive and corroborate the sequence of events. Forensic and technical evidence is also being analyzed, with investigators set to obtain a final medical opinion and additional relevant evidence to strengthen the case.
