Dubois beats Moore to keep Baumgardner in picture

British boxer Caroline Dubois successfully defended her WBC and WBO lightweight titles on Saturday night, securing a dominant unanimous decision victory over American challenger Amelia Moore at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham. The win keeps the unbeaten British champion on track for a blockbuster unification fight against unified super-featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner.

Dubois controlled the ten-round bout from the opening bell, utilizing her power and ring presence against the dogged American fighter. Despite being four inches shorter than her opponent, Dubois dictated the pace and neutralized Moore's height advantage. In the fifth round, Dubois floored Moore with a heavy left hand. Moore showed durability by rising immediately to survive the round, but Dubois maintained complete command throughout the match. The judges scored the contest 99-90, 99-90, and 98-91 in favor of the champion.

The victory sets up an anticipated clash with Baumgardner, who attended the event in Birmingham on what she termed a scouting mission. Baumgardner is scheduled to move up to the lightweight division to face IBF champion Elif Nur Turhan in Texas on November 8. Ringside tension escalated after the fight, with Baumgardner accusing Dubois of tightening up and looking tired during her performance. Dubois responded aggressively to the critique, declaring her dominance over the lightweight division in an expletive-infused exchange.

A prospective showdown between Dubois and Baumgardner could headline a major Most Valuable Promotions event next year, assuming Baumgardner defeats Turhan. The victory comes amid significant structural changes for Dubois, who recently ended her partnership with London-based trainer Shane McGuigan. After winning two world lightweight titles under McGuigan, Dubois relocated to Los Angeles to work with renowned boxing trainer Manny Robles.

Earlier on the Birmingham undercard, former world champion Terri Harper launched her career rebuild with a decisive win over Miranda Reyes. Harper, who lost a points decision to Dubois in April, stepped up to the welterweight division as she targets a world title in a fourth weight class. Harper dominated the action early, dropping the Houston fighter twice in quick succession at the start of the second round. The referee stopped the contest 47 seconds into the second round, securing Harper's seventh career knockout victory. Following the fight, Harper described the match as one of the best performances of her career and confirmed she plans to continue competing at the top level.
