Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin will miss his team’s Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock on Saturday after being admitted to hospital for an ongoing medical issue.

The club confirmed on X that Goodwin, 44, would not be on the bench for the away fixture at Rugby Park. Assistant manager Lee Sharp, who took Friday’s training session at United’s St Andrews base and handled pre-match media duties in Goodwin’s absence, had previously stated that the manager was in “good spirits” but provided no further details about his condition.

Dundee United currently sit bottom of the Scottish Premiership with one point from three matches, while Kilmarnock are also without a point after two games this season.

In a statement on X, Dundee United said: “Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin will not be in attendance at today’s fixture versus Kilmarnock as he continues to deal with an ongoing medical matter. The manager would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and comments over the last 24 hours. The club would ask that his privacy, and that of his family, is respected at this time. We do not intend to provide any further medical detail and will issue an update when appropriate.”

Sharp had told reporters on Friday that he had spoken to Goodwin the previous evening and again that morning, adding that the manager felt unwell and was kept in hospital for observation. The club has not disclosed Goodwin’s specific medical condition or the expected duration of his absence.

Dundee United are scheduled to face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon in a match that could have significant implications for both teams’ early-season form.
