Karachi Police Allege Fake Pregnancy at Nazimabad Hospital Amid Newborn Disappearance Probe

Karachi police have concluded that a woman falsified her pregnancy at a private hospital in Nazimabad, sparking an investigation into possible forgery and hospital negligence. Zubia, wife of Rashid, was admitted to the gynaecology ward of the hospital on August 27, claiming she was in the 38th week of pregnancy. However, medical staff later confirmed during an operation that no pregnancy existed, leading to allegations of deception by authorities.

According to officials, Zubia had submitted a forged ultrasound report with falsified signatures and a counterfeit hospital stamp. Police revealed that Zubia had endured social pressure due to childlessness after a previous miscarriage, prompting her to fabricate the pregnancy to avoid criticism. The incident escalated when Zubia’s family protested outside the hospital, damaging property in response to the discovery.

Investigators stated that Zubia’s February 16 ultrasound report did not confirm a pregnancy, and her August 8 report was deemed fraudulent. Hospital records indicated Zubia was admitted with unstable vital signs, leading doctors to perform an emergency operation. Police have alleged that hospital staff admitted her without conducting required tests, describing this as criminal negligence. Zubia remained hospitalized for eight hours before undergoing a medical examination, where she reportedly confessed to fabricating the pregnancy.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central Dr. Imran Khan confirmed that evidence collected during the probe supported the conclusion that Zubia had lied about her pregnancy. The Sindh Healthcare Commission has also been notified, with Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahsan Qavi emphasizing that while police can register a First Information Report (FIR), medical investigations fall under the commission’s jurisdiction. Dr. Qavi stated that a clinical audit was underway and urged relevant authorities to refer the case to the commission for a formal inquiry. He clarified that hospitals cannot be forcibly closed based on individual requests, despite public demands to seal the facility.

Police have completed their investigation, and Zubia faces potential legal consequences for forgery and public deception.
