Kelambakkam Gang Attack Claims Life of 26-Year-Old Sahul Hameed, 10+ Criminal Cases
26‑year‑old Sahul Hameed, a Kelambakkam resident with over 10 criminal cases, was murdered by a gang on Aug 29, 2026. Police probe links to local rowdy.

A 26-year-old man with a long criminal record was fatally attacked by a group in Kelambakkam, near Chennai, late Saturday night. Sahul Hameed, a resident of Anna Nagar in Kelambakkam, was found dead in a cremation ground behind Matha Church in K.S.S. Nagar on Sunday morning. Police said he had over ten cases registered against him, including murder and attempted murder, at Kelambakkam and Thalambur police stations.
Tambaram Police Commissionerate officials confirmed that Hameed was last seen drinking with unknown people near the cremation ground late Saturday. A special investigation team has been formed to look into the murder, with police considering whether his past association with a rowdy from Kolathur in Mambakkam may have played a role in the killing.
Police recovered Hameed’s body on Sunday morning after receiving information about a person lying dead in the area. The incident occurred in the K.S.S. Nagar neighborhood of Kelambakkam, a locality known for its mix of residential and commercial areas. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events leading to the attack.
Sources said Hameed had reportedly parted ways with the rowdy from Kolathur, raising suspicions that the murder could be linked to personal or gang-related disputes. Police have not yet made any arrests but are pursuing multiple leads. The motive remains under investigation as officers probe whether the killing was a targeted attack or the result of a sudden altercation.
Kelambakkam, located along the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), has seen periodic incidents involving local gangs and criminal elements. The area’s rapid urbanization has also brought increased policing and surveillance. Police officials have assured the public that the investigation is being handled with urgency and that further details will be shared as they emerge.
The murder has once again highlighted concerns about crime in parts of the Tambaram Police Commissionerate jurisdiction, particularly among repeat offenders with violent histories. Authorities are reviewing security measures in the region following the incident.
