Iran’s Supreme Leader calls for Muslim unity against U.S. and Israel amid ongoing regional tensions

In a written message released Sunday, marking the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed, Khamenei emphasized that internal discord among Muslims only serves the interests of their enemies.

The statement, published six months after the start of the West Asia war, comes as regional relations remain strained following recent military actions by Iran. In his address, Khamenei warned that any action leading to division among Muslims—whether intentional or not—would benefit those seeking to undermine Islam. He called on regional leaders to “recognise your real enemy, understand its plan, and confront it,” specifically naming the U.S. and Israel as adversaries.

Khamenei, who has held the position since early 2026 following the death of his father Ali Khamenei in the initial phase of the conflict, has not appeared in public and state media has not released any images, videos, or audio of him. His latest message follows earlier calls for national unity within Iran, where he has repeatedly urged officials and citizens to avoid internal strife and prioritize collective resistance against external threats.

The Supreme Leader also reiterated his call for Iran to reduce its reliance on the U.S. dollar and strengthen domestic economic production. He cited ongoing U.S. naval blockades and long-standing sanctions as key obstacles to Iran’s economic recovery and growth. Earlier on Friday, Khamenei had declared that actions undermining social cohesion in Iran would be prohibited, reinforcing his stance on national unity and stability.

Iran has previously targeted U.S. military bases in several Gulf states during the conflict, including locations in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. While Iran has framed these actions as responses to aggression, they have further strained diplomatic ties with multiple regional governments, many of which have historically maintained cautious or tense relations with Tehran.

Khamenei holds ultimate authority over Iran’s major state policies and continues to shape the country’s strategic direction amid prolonged regional instability.
