Pakistan Security Forces Eliminate 30 Terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operations

Pakistani security forces have neutralized 30 terrorists during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, confirmed the casualties in an official statement on Thursday, describing the militants as part of foreign-backed terror networks.

The military operations targeted several militant strongholds within the region. In the Kurram district, troops engaged militants in two separate actions, eliminating 12 individuals during an initial operation on November 19 and neutralizing another 11 in a follow-up strike in the same area. Additional raids carried out between November 18 and November 19 resulted in the deaths of four militants in the Mohmand district, two in Lakki Marwat, and one in the Tank district.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, sanitization operations remain underway across the affected districts to clear the region of any remaining elements. The actions were executed under the umbrella of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, the national campaign designed to eliminate terrorism and restore security across Pakistan.

Pakistan has faced a sharp rise in militant violence, primarily in the border provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the return of the Afghan Taliban to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Official figures show that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded over 600 terror incidents during the first eight months of the year, claiming the lives of at least 79 police officers and 138 civilians.

The security crisis has also reached major urban centers. On November 11, a suicide attack in Islamabad resulted in 12 fatalities and left 36 others wounded, including legal professionals and citizens visiting local courts.

Pakistani officials have consistently urged the administration in Kabul and international stakeholders to neutralize militant safe havens operating from Afghan territory. Islamabad has specifically cited attacks planned by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Recent peace talks facilitated by Qatar and Turkiye concluded without agreement, with Pakistani diplomats attributing the failure to unconstructive positions taken by the Taliban delegation.

Pakistan's concerns regarding cross-border terrorism have received backing at the international level. Sandra Jensen Landi, Denmark's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and chair of the UN Security Council Daesh and Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee, presented a report highlighting the cross-border threat. Landi stated that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan continues to launch high-profile attacks into Pakistan while receiving logistical and material support from authorities in Afghanistan.
