PM Modi focuses on drug-free India, women’s empowerment in Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasized the need for a drug-free India and women's empowerment during his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat. Speaking in the 137th episode of the program, Modi encouraged young people, musicians, students, theater groups, and content creators to use their platforms to raise awareness about drug addiction. He highlighted the ongoing “Nasha-mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” campaign, which aims to create a drug-free society by targeting youth participation.
Modi stressed that drug addiction affects not just individuals but entire families and communities. "Drug addiction does not just engulf a single individual; the entire family and society have to bear the consequences," he said. He called on creators to produce content in regional languages that supports the campaign, urging them to share their work using the hashtag #NashaMuktYuva.
In addition to the anti-drug initiative, Modi highlighted the success of the PM SVANidhi scheme, which supports street vendors, particularly women. He noted that women make up 46% of the beneficiaries, helping around 3.5 million women expand their small businesses. He cited Babita Sharma from Ghaziabad, whose flower and worship item stall grew into a shop after receiving support, and TS Ningamma from Bengaluru, who expanded her South Indian food business with assistance from the scheme.
"When a woman’s business grows, the future of her entire family advances along with it," Modi said, calling it a prime example of women's empowerment.
The Prime Minister also discussed Mission ShaktiSAT, an initiative involving 12,000 girl students from 108 countries in satellite technology and innovation. He noted that the project aims to launch a satellite developed entirely by female students into lunar orbit.
Modi wrapped up by urging citizens to observe the “Vocal for Local” campaign during the festive season, encouraging people to buy Indian-made products for their homes. He said influencers, celebrities, and creative professionals should promote self-reliance beyond just purchasing earthen lamps.
