Russian Drone Strike Hits Warehouse in Bucha, Ukraine: 37 Killed, 400 Evacuated

A Russian drone strike ignited a large fire and multiple explosions at a warehouse in the village of Myla, Kyiv Oblast, overnight, killing at least 37 people and injuring at least 42 others, including four children. Local authorities reported that around 400 residents were evacuated as flames spread to nearby homes and businesses. The attack, which Ukrainian officials described as causing extensive property damage, has prompted an investigation into the storage of explosive materials at the warehouse.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, confirmed the scale of destruction in a Telegram post, stating that fires broke out in five private homes and a catering facility. Emergency responders continued working at the scene Saturday morning. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office announced a pre-trial investigation into possible negligence regarding the storage of hazardous materials, focusing on permits, safety protocols, and the decision-making of officials involved.

The strike in Myla was part of a wider wave of Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past two days. In Kherson, a separate drone strike killed one person and injured another. In the Odesa region, a Russian attack destroyed eight food transport trucks and killed one civilian while injuring three others. Two more people were injured in a drone strike in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi district.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 267 drones, one Onyx anti-ship missile, and one Iskander ballistic missile between Friday evening and Saturday morning. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 233 of the drones by early Saturday. The attacks reflect an escalation in long-range strikes targeting infrastructure and logistics, according to military analysts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged intensified long-range strikes inside Russia, calling for a daily drone launch target of 1,000. “Right now, we average over 300 of our long-range strikes—there must be more,” he said in a video address Friday. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s defense ministry reported that Russia plans to mobilize up to 600,000 additional troops in 2024 and 2025.

Civilian casualties and infrastructure damage continue to rise as both sides intensify aerial assaults, deepening humanitarian and security concerns across the region.
