South Africa Edge Past All Blacks to Level Rugby Series 1-1

World champion South Africa leveled their four-match series against New Zealand with a victory over the All Blacks at Cape Town Stadium. Wing Cheslin Kolbe scored 18 points as the Springboks held off a fierce late surge from the visitors to equalize the Rugby's Greatest Rivalry series at 1-1. The hard-fought win comes after New Zealand took the opening Test, leaving the series perfectly balanced ahead of the third Test in Soweto, Johannesburg.

South Africa established control early following several late squad adjustments made by head coach Rassie Erasmus, including switching his starting front row hours before kick-off. Center Jesse Kriel scored an opening try within two minutes after a powerful line-out drive, with Kolbe adding the conversion.

New Zealand answered back through scrum-half Cam Roigard, who linked up with Will Jordan to level the score. However, South Africa regained momentum through their set-piece dominance. Damian de Allende crossed the line after another imposing maul, and captain Siya Kolisi crashed over just before halftime to build a 24-14 lead for the hosts.

Kolbe extended the Springboks lead in the second half with two penalties, taking the advantage to 16 points as South Africa dominated the breakdown. New Zealand head coach Dave Rennie had warned his side would need to dig deep to counter the South African onslaught, and the All Blacks responded with a spirited late rally.

Despite being outscored four tries to three, the Springboks managed to maintain their advantage. Leroy Carter finished a fluent backline move in the corner, and All Blacks captain Ardie Savea scored in the 77th minute to reduce the deficit to a single score while South African lock Lood de Jager was serving a yellow card.

New Zealand launched one final attack in the closing moments, but Springbok replacement Cameron Hanekom secured a vital breakdown turnover to end the threat and secure the win for the hosts.

The victory allowed South Africa to reclaim momentum in the series, which marks the first tour between the two rugby powerhouses in 30 years. The series now moves to altitude for the third Test in Soweto next Saturday.
