Tragic Train Accident Near Arakkonam Station Kills Woman and Two Sons

A 27-year-old woman and her two young sons were killed after being struck by a train near Arakkonam railway station in Ranipet district on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. as the Chennai Central Suburban–Tiruchanur MEMU train, traveling toward Tiruttani town, struck K. Valli and her children K. Bharath, 7, and K. Santhosh, 3. Authorities have registered a case and are investigating the cause, including the possibility of suicide.

Police identified the victims as K. Valli, 27, and her sons Bharath and Santhosh. According to an initial inquiry, Valli was married to S. Kottaiyah, 30, in Kancheepuram, her hometown. The couple had been making flat grinding stones for household use along roadsides in villages and small towns. After moving to Mangamapettai village near Arakkonam to earn a livelihood, Kottaiyah died a few months ago due to illness. Valli then faced significant financial difficulties supporting the family.

Relatives from Kancheepuram were informed and are traveling to the Government Taluk Hospital in Arakkonam, where the bodies are being kept for post-mortem examination. Police confirmed that a formal case has been registered and an investigation is ongoing, with authorities also examining a possible suicide motive.

The tragic incident has raised concerns about railway safety and mental health support in the region. Authorities have urged the public to avoid crossing railway tracks and to seek help when needed. Support services for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts are available in Tamil Nadu, including the state health helpline 104, Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline at 044-24640050, and the Tele-MANAS helpline at 14416.
