Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia deepen joint defense framework

Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to deepen their defense partnership under the Mecca Agreement, taking new steps to strengthen collective deterrence and regional security. The announcement follows a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee in Istanbul, where senior officials from the three countries discussed ways to institutionalize their defense cooperation.

The committee brought together foreign and defense ministers along with chiefs of defense forces and general staff from Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The meeting highlighted efforts by Ankara, Islamabad and Riyadh to move beyond informal coordination toward a more structured framework focused on mutual defense, deterrence and regional stability.

One of the key decisions was the establishment of a permanent secretariat in Saudi Arabia to oversee and coordinate defense cooperation under the Mecca Agreement. According to the joint statement, the secretariat will be led initially by a secretary-general from Pakistan for a three-year term. This move is expected to enhance the efficiency and continuity of the trilateral defense initiatives.

The three countries also pledged to strengthen their armed forces through joint activities and expand defense industry cooperation. This includes joint technology development and production, aiming to boost self-reliance and interoperability among their militaries. The measures are designed to enhance their collective defense capabilities and improve crisis response.

Despite these advancements, Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia emphasized that their cooperation is aimed at supporting regional stability rather than escalating tensions. They reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable peace and stability, pledging to promote de-escalation and restraint. The leaders stressed that closer implementation of the Mecca Agreement would contribute to cooperative regional security and efforts toward a just and lasting peace.

The meeting in Istanbul reflects a broader trend of strengthening defense ties among regional allies amid evolving security challenges. By institutionalizing their cooperation, Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are positioning themselves to respond more effectively to shared threats while maintaining a focus on peaceful solutions.
