NAFDAC Cracks Down on Unregistered Cosmetics at Lagos Trade Fair

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed several shops at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, Lagos State, following a crackdown on unregistered cosmetic products. The enforcement action, conducted on August 26 and 27, targeted businesses suspected of selling cosmetics that lack proper registration with the regulatory agency. NAFDAC confirmed the operation in a statement shared on its X account on August 29, 2026, emphasizing its commitment to removing unsafe or unregistered products from circulation.

During the two-day operation, NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Cosmetics Division, inspected multiple shops and business premises within the Trade Fair Complex. Authorities identified several shops dealing in unregistered cosmetics, including Vincentmo World, Amazon City of Fragrance, Aza-King Store Perfumes, PP2 & Fragrance Int’l Ltd., No. D12 Fragrance Doctor Shop, and God & Obaino Fragrance Store. Samples of the suspected products were collected for further laboratory analysis, while the affected premises were locked and labeled with NAFDAC HOLD notices pending regulatory action.

Owners and operators of the sealed shops have been invited for interrogation as part of NAFDAC’s regulatory proceedings. The agency did not specify the exact number of shops affected but indicated that additional enforcement activities would continue within the complex. The Trade Fair Complex, located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, is a major commercial hub known for its wide range of consumer goods, including cosmetics and fragrances.

NAFDAC’s latest enforcement action aligns with its ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with Nigeria’s cosmetic safety and registration standards. The agency regularly conducts raids to curb the circulation of unregistered or substandard products, which pose potential health risks to consumers. This operation highlights NAFDAC’s intensified regulatory activities to protect public health by ensuring that only approved cosmetic products enter the Nigerian market.

The Trade Fair Complex remains a key commercial center in Lagos, attracting traders from across the country. However, its size and high volume of transactions also make it susceptible to the sale of unregulated goods. NAFDAC’s intervention underscores the challenges of enforcing product safety standards in large informal markets.
