Nigeria Police Arrest 4 Suspects in Nasarawa Kidney Harvesting Syndicate

The Nigeria Police Force has paraded four suspects allegedly involved in an organ harvesting and human trafficking ring operating in Nasarawa State. The suspects, including two doctors from Wellington Hospital in Abuja, were arrested during a sting operation on August 19, 2026, in Karu Local Government Area.

Emmanuel Ode, 23, Dr. Benjamin Oyime (48), Dr. Daniel Otukpa (53), and David Idoko (25) are now in police custody. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, confirmed their arrest in a statement issued Friday. Investigations revealed that Ode allegedly recruited victims under false pretenses, luring them to Wellington Hospital where their kidneys were harvested.

According to the police statement, Ode confessed to facilitating the removal of Samuel Ezekiel’s kidney on April 24, 2026, for $1,250 (₦1.7 million). Another victim claimed he was tricked into a similar procedure in 2022 and paid ₦7 million. Police said the suspects exploited financial desperation among vulnerable young people in Nasarawa and neighboring areas.

Evidence gathered includes forged documents such as National Identification Numbers, birth certificates, and consent letters used to conceal the illegal activities. Police also recovered clothes allegedly bought with proceeds from the crime during the operation.

The Nigeria Police Force emphasized ongoing efforts to dismantle human trafficking and organ harvesting networks across the country. The development follows public allegations by social media activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, who exposed kidney trafficking cases involving youths in Nyanya, Mararaba, and Karu areas. VeryDarkMan’s reports included claims that donors were paid minimal amounts while kidneys were sold for higher prices.

In response to viral social media claims of widespread kidney sales in FCT communities, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command denied receiving any official reports of such activities. Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh urged the public to disregard unverified claims and report credible information to authorities.

Investigations remain active as police work to identify and arrest additional suspects linked to the syndicate.
