Real Madrid Crushes Malaga 4-0 as Bellingham, Mbappé, Güler Score
Real Madrid routs Malaga 4-0, with Bellingham, Mbappé and Güler scoring. Own goal by keeper Herrero, Mourinho’s rotation secures first clean sheet.
Real Madrid maintained their flawless start to the La Liga season on Sunday, securing an emphatic 4-0 victory over Malaga at the Santiago Bernabeu. Under manager Jose Mourinho, Los Blancos delivered a commanding first-half performance featuring goals from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, an own goal by Malaga goalkeeper Alfonso Herrero, and a late strike from substitute Arda Güler.
The home side established total dominance early, scoring three goals in just over ten minutes during the opening half. Bellingham broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with a striking individual effort, beating two defenders before sending his shot through Herrero's legs.
Bellingham was instrumental in Madrid's second goal seven minutes later. After Herrero denied an initial strike from Mbappe, Bellingham headed the rebound toward the target. Malaga defender Carlos Puga attempted to clear the ball off the line, but it bounced off Herrero and into the net.
Mbappe extended the lead shortly after with a volley from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross. The goal marked Mbappe's fourth strike of the campaign, placing him at the top of the league scoring charts. Mourinho rotated his squad for the fixture, making five changes to the starting lineup and handing Alexander-Arnold and Marc Cucurella their first starts of the season.
Malaga threatened late in the first half when Rafa Rodriguez hit the post following a corner and Chupe struck the side netting. However, Real Madrid comfortably controlled the second half. Bellingham hit the outside of the post before Güler completed the scoring late in the match, tapping home from point-blank range following an assist from Vinicius Junior.
Bellingham received a standing ovation from the Bernabeu crowd when substituted in the second half. "I've got the freedom to go higher or lower if we need, I'm enjoying myself a lot," Bellingham told Real Madrid TV regarding his attacking role under Mourinho. He added, "It's an honor to play for this club and in front of these fans and the ovation was very nice."
Mourinho expressed satisfaction with securing the club's first clean sheet of the season. "The second half was more about managing the game, at a lower tempo," Mourinho said. "Football isn't just about having fun with the beauty of the goals – it's also about going home thinking that we're a solid unit."
In other Spanish league action, Deportivo La Coruna earned their first win of the season by defeating Valencia 3-1, led by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's third goal of the campaign alongside two own goals by Valencia. Edin Terzic guided Athletic Bilbao to their first victory, beating Celta Vigo 2-0 with goals from Alex Berenguer and Robert Navarro. League champions Barcelona prepare to host Rayo Vallecano on Monday.
