Saudi AI Projects Win Top Honors at WSIS 2026 for Digital Innovation

RIYADH — Six Saudi-led artificial intelligence and digital initiatives have been recognized at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2026 for advancing ethical AI use, accelerating digital transformation, and supporting Saudi Vision 2030 goals.

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) announced that its projects were honored at the global forum, which is organized by the International Telecommunication Union and other United Nations agencies. The awards recognize initiatives that promote responsible AI development, strengthen data governance, and foster digital inclusion.

Among the winning entries is the AI Service Provider Accreditation initiative, which encourages organizations to adopt ethical AI practices and meet standardized benchmarks. Another recognized project is an early breast cancer detection program developed to improve early diagnosis and patient outcomes in healthcare.

SDAIA’s Generative AI Accelerator also received an award for supporting the development and deployment of generative AI applications across sectors. The Tahseen initiative, aimed at digitally restoring and enhancing Saudi historical media archives, was honored for preserving cultural heritage through technology.

Additionally, the AI Principles and Ethics in the Media Sector project, developed in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Media, was recognized for setting ethical guidelines for AI use in journalism and broadcasting. Nafath, the national digital identity platform developed with the Ministry of Interior, received an award for enabling secure and trusted digital transactions.

These honors follow SDAIA’s earlier announcement in April that nine of its projects had been shortlisted for WSIS Prizes 2026. While six projects ultimately won, the shortlisted initiatives included the National AI Index, the National Open Data Platform, and the multilingual Data and AI Glossary, which provides standardized AI terminology in Arabic, English, and French.

The awards underscore Saudi Arabia’s rising global profile in AI, data governance, and digital innovation. They reflect the country’s strategic investments under Vision 2030 to build a secure, trustworthy, and inclusive digital ecosystem. The WSIS recognizes projects that leverage information and communication technologies to advance sustainable development and digital inclusion worldwide.

This recognition adds to SDAIA’s growing presence in international technology forums as Saudi Arabia continues to prioritize AI and digital transformation across government and industry.
